Yesterday we spent time reviewing square roots and irrational numbers. today we reviewed this and then took a quick quiz on it. We discussed the Pythagorean Theorem using the following steps:
1. look at the triangle, make sure it is a right triangle.
2. see what 2 sides are provided, do you have the longest side (the hypoteneuse) or do you need to find the hypoteneuse?
3. If you have the 2 legs: you will use a squared times b squared equals x squared.
If you have the hypoteneuse and 1 leg you will use c squared minus a squared equals x squared.
boy I wish this keyboard would let me write equations better than this :)
4. the next step is to find the square root of x squared.
5. the final step is to make sure that you round the answer as requested and use the proper label for the units.
We reviewed 4 examples in class and THE ASSIGNMENT is to finish the handout: Reteach 11-2, starting with #4.
