prealgebra, wed nov 4

We had some time to continue to work on our final decimal assignment (hidden picture) today. I will still accept it tomorrow and not count it late (but that's the last day).
We also updated our folders with all our work on decimals this quarter.
We have a new seating chart which we will use while we work on fractions -- our new topic.
I spent considerable time reminding students:
they have done a good job this quarter paying attention and trying -- the grades show it
they can also do this with fractions
research (and my own experience) shows that learning fractions is the best thing you can do to prepare for success with algebra in high school
we will continue to do most of our work together in class which will help them succeed
we will also use some other learning methods (on-line and building models) to help them fill in any learning-gaps with fractions
all of these students can improve their skills with fractions
THE ASSIGNMENT tonight -- think about these two questions and write down your answers:
1) what has kept me from being successful with fractions in the past
2) what am I willing to do this time in order to be successful with fractions
I'm going to be very interested to read these!!
