We are very involved in a Problem-Solving Workshop all this week.
The topic is Thanksgiving dinner and the tasks include developing a menu, using recipes to create a shopping list, and using grocery ads to determine prices. Students work in small groups and the project involves many computations, including with fractions and decimals. They have to think whether their results make sense. They are partial to desserts -- no surprise there.
Two groups have already completed their work -- here are their Menus:
One group is serving Chicken Anna, green beans, two-step cheesecake, pumpkin pie and double-delight peanut butter cookies. Their cost per person served is $7.54.
A second group is serving turkey and baby-back ribs, chitterlings, apple cider, pumpkin pie, ice cream, cake and cookies. Their cost per person is $8.11.
